AHEAD of World Book Day, Christ College Brecon is launching a host of activities to engage pupils with their reading, including ‘The Masked Reader’ and a guest reading from children’s author, Robin Stevens.

Drawing inspiration from hit ITV show The Masked Singer, The Masked Reader will see teachers from Christ College’s juniors, St Nicholas House, using Morpho Animation to hide their identities whilst reading extracts from their favourite children’s book.

Every day until Friday 12th March, which will be the last day of online teaching in the junior section, a clip of a different teacher will be released reading an extract, along with a clue about who the hidden teacher could be.

Students are encouraged to guess the hidden identities along with the title of the book being read.

St Nicholas House students and those in years seven and eight are also receiving a guest reading from Robin Stevens, author of the Murder Most Unladylike series.

Robin will be sharing her most recent novel, ‘Death Sets Sail’, which is the final instalment of the series, as well as helping the children with a writing challenge.

Gareth Pearson , Head of Christ College said: “We always like to mark World Book Day and celebrate the written word. Not being able to be together this year, makes it even more important that we actively involve the children, and what better way to do that than with a reading from a robot, a dragon and Humpty Dumpty?!

“We are very excited also, to have Robin Stevens join us reading her latest work to the children and helping them to do a little writing of their own.”

Set within the Brecon Beacons National Park, Christ College is an independent co-educational boarding and day school, with 350 pupils on roll between the ages of seven to 18. Since September 2014, they have welcomed children from ages 7-11 to their very own, purpose-built setting within the college campus called St Nicholas House.
