Updated plans for the replacement Mynydd Cynffig Primary School have been submitted to further ensure the redevelopment delivers the highest standards in education, sustainability, and community benefit while incorporating feedback from residents.
The planning application is currently under consideration by the Local Planning Authority and the changes reflect comments received during the consultation and align with the latest planning and environmental guidelines.
Key changes include:
• Enhanced acoustic measures – Acoustic fencing will be installed around the school boundary, supported by planting around the all-weather sports pitch. Environmental assessments have confirmed that projected noise levels will remain within acceptable limits.
• All-weather sports pitch – The pitch will now be constructed without floodlighting, responding to local feedback and environmental considerations.
• Ecological improvements – Additional ecological mitigation and planting measures have been incorporated to support biodiversity, including protections for species such as dormice and slow worms.
The new two-storey building would replace the existing junior department site, bringing all year groups together on a single campus. Designed to be Net Zero Carbon in operation, the school will feature modern learning environments including an indoor learning plaza, main hall, studio hall, outdoor play areas, and all-weather pitches.
Facilities such as cycle storage, electric vehicle charging points, and secure allotments with 26 individual plots are also included, alongside a significant landscaping scheme. The school’s sports and hall facilities will be available for use by community groups and organisations.
