CRS empowers workforce with new employee ownership trust structure

Complete Remedial Solutions (CRS), an award-winning Wales-based provider of specialist insulation, heating, and energy efficiency solutions, has successfully completed a major transaction by establishing an Employee Ownership Trust (EOT).

The EOT deal will see the trust receive a majority stake in the business on behalf of its 38 employees, empowering them to shape its future while maintaining a commitment to high-quality service across the commercial, residential, and public sectors.

Founded in 2018, CRS has grown into an industry leader, known for its expertise in the retrofitting of insulation, heating, and renewable energy solutions. The business offers full-service operations, providing end-to-end solutions, including installation and aftercare for energy-efficient systems and heating upgrades.

The decision to transition to an Employee Ownership Trust was motivated by a desire to secure the future of CRS while recognising and rewarding the team that has been fundamental to its success. With 38 employees, many of whom have been with the company for over a decade, including from before CRS became a limited company in 2018, CRS boasts a core team that collectively brings more than 50 years of experience. CEO Keith Platt, who founded the company in 2018, saw the EOT as an ideal way to ensure the longevity of the business while sharing the rewards of its success with the staff who helped build it.

“This EOT transaction allows our employees to share in the company’s future success while maintaining the values that have made us who we are,” said Keith Platt. “Our team has been integral to our growth, and now they have a direct stake in what we build next.”

The EOT will provide employees with performance-based annual bonuses, depending on the company’s growth and success. Additionally, employees will benefit financially if future investment opportunities arise, offering a significant incentive for continued engagement and contribution.

CRS began by providing project management, surveying, and packaging services to the insulation and energy efficiency sector, rapidly expanding into installation as demand for energy-efficient solutions grew. The company soon evolved into a full-service provider, handling everything from initial surveys to installation and aftercare. Today, CRS is recognised as an expert in delivering government-backed energy efficiency schemes, such as the Energy Company Obligation and the Great British Insulation Schemes, which offer grants for insulation, heating, and renewable energy solutions to eligible households.

CRS serves a broad clientele, including residential customers and local authorities, focusing primarily on government-backed schemes that promote energy efficiency for low-income households. Despite its growth, CRS remains agile, adapting to changes in government policies and funding to ensure it continues to deliver value to its clients.

GS Verde Group, a leading advisory firm specialising in complex transactions, guided CRS through the EOT process. With their multi-disciplinary approach combining expertise in law, tax, finance, and communications, GS Verde ensured a smooth and successful transition to employee ownership.

“The support from GS Verde Group was invaluable,” said Platt. “They handled everything with precision, from the legal structuring to helping us communicate the changes to the team. Their integrated approach made the entire process seamless.”

Looking ahead, CRS plans to continue its focus on energy-efficient systems and renewable energy solutions, with employees playing a more active role in guiding the company’s strategy. By leveraging its new ownership structure, CRS is well-positioned to expand into new markets and take advantage of future government schemes and opportunities.

“We’ve built something special here at CRS,” said Platt. “The EOT secures our future and allows us to continue delivering outstanding service while giving our employees the chance to share in our success.”
