The new Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council has been announced as Dawn Ingram-Jones.

Dawn, who represents the Aberbargoed and Bargoed ward, accepted the position of civic head at the Annual General Meeting of Council last week (Thursday 8th May). The Mayor’s chosen charity for this year will be Home-Start Cymru, a family support service for parents.

Dawn Ingram-Jones has been married to Geraint for 32 years and is a proud mother to Rebecca and Megan. She has lived and worked in the local community for the majority of her life. Over the past 15 years, she has served residents across Caerphilly County Borough as a specialist debt adviser and qualified teacher, following seven years of dedicated service in the Housing sector.

Elected as the Member for Aberbargoed and Bargoed in 2022, Dawn most recently served as Deputy Mayor of Caerphilly County Borough Council, a role she embraced with enthusiasm and pride. Dawn brings her deep-rooted passion for community, education, and public service into her new role as Mayor with her daughter, Megan, as her consort.

Cllr Ingram-Jones said, “It’s a privilege to take on the role of Mayor for the coming year. I look forward to engaging with residents, community groups, and organisations across our borough—listening, learning, and supporting wherever I can”.

A Deputy Mayor will not be appointed with Cllr Colin Gordon acting as Presiding Member and Cllr Liz Aldworth as Deputy Presiding Member.

The election of Mayor and Deputy Mayor takes place each year at the annual meeting of Council. Dawn Ingram-Jones will serve as the final Mayor for this civic year following the Council’s decision to remove the role of elected Mayor.
