A Caerphilly man has been jailed for various driving offences following a South Wales Police pursuit.

Zackary Williams aged 30 from Risca in Caerphilly pleaded guilty to dangerous driving, driving without insurance, driving whilst disqualified, driving without a license and assaulting an emergency worker when he first appeared at Cardiff Magistrates Court on Saturday August 2, 2025.

This followed an incident on Friday August 1, when officers received a phone call reporting a man driving while allegedly being intoxicated.  The Vauxhall Astra being driven by Williams was then sighted driving on Cowbridge Road, Bridgend.

As soon as Williams spotted the police car, he sped of and failed to stop. During the pursuit, he ran through red lights and reached speeds of up to 70mph in a 40mph zone, Williams continued to drive erratically overtaking cars with oncoming traffic.

Williams then came to a stop to attempt to reverse ram the police car, he managed to reverse into one of the police cars before trying to force another police car onto the pavement and into a wall. He was subsequently stopped and arrested. The Astra he was driving was then also found to be on false plates.

Williams was sentenced to one year and two months in prison when he was sentenced at Cardiff Crown Court on Friday August 22.

Roads Policing Officer Missen said:“Williams showed complete disregard to those around him by driving in such a dangerous manner, this type of driving can have devastating consequences.

Williams caused a significant amount of damage to two police cars, causing them to be of the road for some time

I hope this sentence sends out a strong message, that it is never acceptable to drive in such a manner and that we are always on patrol and could be anywhere”
