A new four part BBC drama , The Guest, has received production funding support from the Welsh Government via Creative Wales, the economic development agency that supports the creative industries in Wales.
The Guest shines a spotlight on Welsh talent, both in front of and behind the camera. Created by Welsh screenwriter Matthew Barry (Men Up), the four part thriller was filmed at Dragon Studios near Bridgend and on location in Cardiff, Newport and Rhossili with a largely Welsh cast, led by Eve Myles (Keeping Faith) and Gabrielle Creevy (In My Skin).
Behind the lens, 65% of the employed crew were based in Wales, while a further five trainees were offered placements.
As part of Creative Wales’ commitment to growing the nation’s creative industries, the production brought a strong economic boost, delivering a £12 return to the Welsh economy for every £1 invested.
Joedi Langley, interim Head of Creative Wales, said:
‘The Guest is the latest high-profile production to be made in Wales with our support. With a script brought to life by acclaimed Welsh writer Mathew Barry, a stellar, almost entirely Welsh cast led by Eve Myles and featuring a range of locations across Cardiff, Newport and Rhossili, The Guest is a great example of authentic Welsh portrayal and is testament to the depth of talent living and working here.
‘Creative Wales is committed to backing projects that showcase our fantastic locations and provide opportunities for our talented writers, producers, directors, cast and crew. There is a huge amount of filming underway in Wales at the moment, so there’s lots of new content to look forward to.’
