The FAW Trust is pleased to announce that David Adams has been appointed the new Technical Director. The appointment follows a robust recruitment and selection process, during which Adams emerged as the stand out candidate. He starts his new role at the beginning of November.

Adams achieved his UEFA Pro Licence in 2011 and has been a senior FAW Coach Educator for more than 10 years. He also has a strong formal education background, achieving a PhD from South Wales University in 2018 and was a Principal Lecturer at the University, developing the first football coaching degree in partnership with the FAW Trust. He is a recognised expert in the field of coach effectiveness.

Adams is an outstanding technician and, in addition to his Coach Education background, has significant player development experience. From 2014 to 2017, Adams was Head of Coaching at Swansea City FC, overseeing the development of a talented crop of players including present Wales stars Dan James, Connor Roberts and Joe Rodon. During that time he won the U23’s National Championships and developed a Category 1 Academy programme. During the 2015/16 season David became Joint Manager with Alan Curtis, guiding Swansea to 12th in the English Premier League. He was also Head of Coaching and Player Development at Everton FC and Assistant to Garry Monk at Middlesbrough FC.

FAW Trust Chief Executive, Neil Ward, said: “I am pleased to have secured a person of David’s calibre as our Technical Director and look forward with confidence to him building on and expanding the success of our world class Coach Education and Player Development programmes designed by his predecessor, Osian Roberts.

“He will also play an instrumental role in improving the player pathway and supporting the development of grass roots football.”
