An independent retailer is set to open a newly rebranded Nisa Local following a six-figure funding boost from HSBC UK.
The store in Church Village, near Pontypridd – previously operating as a Co-op – closed temporarily on 19 July and reopened on 1 September under the new ownership of C&S Patel Retail.
The business has acquired the 7,500 sq. ft. site with support from HSBC UK, retaining all existing staff and planning to recruit additional team members as demand grows.
The store is expected to undergo phased improvements over the next six to eight months, with a focus on operational efficiency, product availability and a refreshed customer experience. The business is targeting a 37 per cent increase in weekly turnover, moving up to around £50,000.
Chirag Patel, Director at C&S Patel Retail, said: “We’re not just relaunching a store, we’re creating a local hub with better choice, familiar faces, and a stronger emphasis on service. With the backing of HSBC UK, we’re also laying the groundwork for future growth that puts Church Village residents at the heart of our plans.”
Ceri Thomas, Relationship Manager at HSBC UK, added: “We’re proud to support businesses like C&S Patel Retail that are investing in communities and modernising the everyday shopping experience. Their commitment to retaining staff and upgrading operations makes this a great model for how local retail can support communities while evolving and thriving.”
