Freight firm goes for growth with green tech investment

Ieuan Rosser, Chief Executive of FLS.

Freight Logistics Solutions has announced a new service for clients to monitor their carbon footprint for the freight transport they book.

FLS books vehicles based on their proximity to the required collection point not the origin of the vehicle, so the operations system is specifically designed to mitigate empty mileage through the identification of close proximity to collection point while always considering the filling of the return journey. A new online carbon dashboard now analyses the total carbon used for booked journeys. It shows the carbon footprint for each journey made to each destination and is fully investigable.

Ieuan Rosser is the Chief Executive of FLS. He said: “We pride ourselves on providing our customers with the quality transport data insight needed to plan and improve business performance. One of the big questions from customers has been ‘what is my transport carbon footprint?’ and with almost 30% of all road freight milage currently driven empty, freight transport agents are in prime position to support reducing the waste this incurs.

“Corporate social and environmental responsibilities are becoming increasingly higher profile for leading UK business’ who want to know their suppliers are on top of their responsibilities in recording and delivering environment-based statistics related to the products and services they provide. That is why it is important to be able to evaluate the contribution transport makes to a company’s carbon footprint and help business make more sustainable environmental decisions.”

Chris Sourbutts. Data and Technology Director for FLS said: “The funding from the Development Bank of Wales in 2021 is enabling us to invest in our IT infrastructure and systems to continuously enhance our offering. Our client portal already provides live transport information and data insight into what each client has booked, stores documentation and customs files related to each booking. The addition of the carbon dashboard as part of our green freight vision offers not only carbon measures by vehicle, destination, or date ranges but the algorithm means that we can also calculate savings against using a traditional fixed origin haulier.”

Mark Halliday of the Development Bank of Wales said: “FLS is taking the lead in helping to decarbonise freight transport. It is very encouraging to see how our equity finance is being used to drive the execution of long-term growth plans, particularly initiatives like this that are helping to reduce carbon emissions.”
