Friends! The Musical Parody was a Huge Success in Cardiff

Friends! The Musical Parody embarked on a Welsh leg of shows at the New Theatre in Cardiff. The event ran from April 28 to May 2, and the turnout was exceptional. The production travelled to Wales from the sell-out Las Vegas and Broadway runs, and covered numerous moments from within the show.

Friends is Still Popular Two Decades after the Finale Aired

Part of Friends’ continued popularity comes down to the fact that it’s evolved continually. The original series ended in 2004, and it was followed by the spin-off, Joey.

This ran for 46 episodes across two series. Since then, merchandise, official games, and fan experiences have popped up all across the UK. Streaming has played a major role here.

Even though Friends left Netflix at the end of 2025, it found a new home on HBO Max. Paddy Power games feature a Friends-themed slot title called FRIENDS The One with a Triple Slot. This slot features cups of coffee that are synonymous with the Central Perk coffee shop.

The love people have for Friends is evident, and that’s one of the reasons why the event has sold so well. Originally created by Tobly and Bob McSmith, the parody condenses 10 seasons of Friends into a single fast-paced comedy musical.

It starts with Rachel bursting through Central Perk in her wedding dress, before racing through some of the most iconic moments in the TV show. The Cardiff date marked the final stop of the tour. Given its success, and how many people travelled to see it from beyond Wales, it wouldn’t be surprising to see it come back in the near future.

Cineworld Newport Paid Homage to the Series

Earlier in the year, fans gathered at Cineworld in Newport. A collaboration was held between McDonald’s, Digital Cinema Media and Warner Bros that transformed the Welsh cinema into a Friends-themed experience.

Many people who attended the event voiced that they would happily go to the cinema to watch episodes of Friends, and given how popular the event was, it wouldn’t be surprising to see this done for the anniversary of the show.

Interestingly, festivals and events like this encourage new audiences to discover the series, while ensuring that long-term fans still have a reason to revisit their top episodes. HBO’s investment also shows that Friends is still a huge draw.

The company premiered the franchise in 2026 on its platform, alongside making investments in original content. As HBO competes with Netflix, Apple TV and Amazon Prime, they are trying to diversify, adding old favorites like Friends as well as recently releasing the third season of Euphoria. House of the Dragon is also expected to land later on this year.

As Friends is so highly regarded, and as more people stream the TV show so that iconic scenes can be revisited, it’s undeniable that this has had a big impact on the popularity of the theatre show, which sold out numerous dates in Wales.
