There is an opportunity for residents to share their views on the possible relocation of Library and face-to-face customer services in Aberaeron.
Ceredigion County Council is currently undertaking a review into the use of its buildings in an attempt to provide more central and efficient services to the people of Ceredigion. One area we are currently exploring is the use of County Hall in Aberaeron, which offers a library service and face-to-face customer service, offering advice and assistance to the public.
The proposal would modernise library provision with the inclusion of a makerspace. This is a dedicated area where library users can get creative and use shared resources such as an advanced sewing machine, 3D printer, Internet of Things sensors and other creative opportunities. This space can also be utilised for training and group workshops.
The Council is keen to see all buildings being efficiently used and where necessary are adjusted to meet changing needs. The proposal would address sustainability considerations and our Net Zero ambitions through the reduction of the carbon footprint of the library service, taking advantage of existing renewable energy and efficiencies through co-locating services, whilst improving service provision for the whole community.
Councillor Catrin M S Davies is Ceredigion’s Cabinet Member responsible for Customer Contact, ICT and Digital. She said: “As a Cabinet we are keen to deliver as many services to Ceredigion residents as possible and to deliver those services sustainably and efficiently. We want to do this in collaboration with residents and consulting with the public in this way allows us to hear everybody’s views on the potential changes. The improved service provision proposed in Aberaeron are exciting and include:
- Providing a larger Library as well as more room for users to work and book a dedicated work space
- Creating a dedicated children’s library collection and reading area
- Modernising the technology for users and staff
- Creating a new reception area that will support the wider community with everyone being able to pop in and get help with any council related enquiries, as well as library loans and community use.”
