KPMG in the UK has opened applications for its 2019 graduate programmes for the Audit and Tax, Pensions and Legal Services practices. Roles are available in Cardiff as well as across the UK, and graduates from all subjects are invited to apply. Michelle Hinchliffe, head of audit for KPMG in the UK, said of the launch:

“We are extremely excited to be opening our graduate programmes for 2019, and we look forward to welcoming more talented young people into our firm.  Being an auditor requires a specific set of skills, but not all of these may be what you might typically imagine. “Numeracy is still hugely important, but we also look for certain capabilities which are not measured by academic achievements. The modern auditor is part accountant, part detective and part data scientist so we are on the lookout for natural curiosity, independent thinking and a keen eye for detail. We are committed to boosting the diversity of our graduate intake. Due to the sheer variety of our work and the need for different perspectives, it is crucial that we have diverse teams who bring varied life experiences through the door. “Those who love technology should also take a close look at a career in audit. We are on the lookout for expert coders, data analysts and tech specialists. For those who don’t have those skills yet but want to learn, we provide world class on-the-job training in our growing Data Science Centre of Excellence. “The advantage of our graduate programme is you get all the training on the job so if your degree is, for example, in English literature or politics but you think you have the skills necessary – we want to hear from you.”

Senior Partner at KPMG’s Cardiff office, Simon Jones, started his career with KPMG on the graduate programme some 32 years ago, and has predominantly working in the South Wales region ever since. He said: [aoa id=”1″] “I can genuinely say that I’ve had a fantastic career with KPMG. The graduate programme is a great foundation for anyone aspiring to have a successful and challenging career, either in the accountancy profession, or elsewhere in the world of finance. It gives the technical and other skills needed to enable you to pursue whatever career path opportunities you choose down the line. “And there are certainly looking to be significant opportunities in the South Wales area in the coming years, with a real focus on developing the financial and professional services sector in the Cardiff Business District, huge investment in infrastructure by the Welsh Government, and the City Deals in Cardiff and Swansea that we hope will act as a catalyst for economic growth in the region.” [/aoa] 2018 saw KPMG welcome 620 new audit graduates in to the firm, representing a 36% increase on the class of 2017. In London, the number of audit graduates increased by 30%, whilst regionally there was an increase of 42%, highlighting the firm’s commitment to audit across the UK, not just in the capital. The 2019 intake will start with the firm in September next year. To apply for our 2019 audit, tax, pensions and legal services graduate vacancies, please visit the KPMG Careers web page where programmes are now open: https://www.kpmgcareers.co.uk/ Additional programmes for consulting, technology, deal advisory and business services will be opening later in the year.
