A man has been found guilty of the murder of Shelley Davies in Caerau, Cardiff.

Kian Bateman, of Caerau, Cardiff, has also been found guilty of grievous bodily harm with intent in relation to Shelley’s partner David Bratcher.

Emergency services were called to Heol Trelai just before 12.30am on Saturday September 27, 2025, to a report that the driver of a car had collided with pedestrians outside the 4th Glamorgan Home Guard Club.

Shelley Davies, 38, from Caerau, was seriously injured during the incident having been run over by the car, and despite critical care, sadly died at the University Hospital of Wales, Cardiff, on Saturday, October 18, 2025.

Her partner David Bratcher, 40, who was also seriously injured was treated at the same Hospital.

Kian Bateman, of Caerau, Cardiff, admitted causing death and injury by dangerous driving, but denied the murder of Shelley Davies and the attempted murder of David Bratcher.

Following a trial at Cardiff Crown Court, 19-year-old Bateman was last week (Friday, May 1) convicted of murder and grievous bodily harm with intent.

Detective Chief Inspector Matt Powell from South Wales Police said:

“Shelley Davies was loved dearly by her family and friends. Our thoughts remain with them today as they have been throughout this horrendous ordeal.

“We welcome the convictions at court today and would like to thank all the witnesses who assisted the investigation, the Caerau community, as well as the prosecution team.”

Sentencing will take place on July 3.
