Andrew Glyn Passmore, 41, from Hirwaun, has been sentenced to nine years in prison after being found guilty of attempt rape of a girl under 16, assault by penetration and sexual assault.

In addition to the jail term, he will have to register as a sex offender for the rest of his life; will be the subject of a Sexual Harm Prevention Order (SHPO) for 15 years; and has a 10-year restraining order placed on him.

    Police Constable Natalie Cook said:

“I would like to praise the victim for the strength they have shown during this investigation. I hope that now Andrew Passmore is in prison this will go some way to helping them move forward and begin to rebuild their lives as this has had a significant impact on them.

“For those who have been a victim of sexual offences please be assured that we take all reports of sexual assault seriously. We will believe you; we will support you and we will do everything we can to bring an offender to justice.”

    South Wales Police said:

“Rape and serious sexual offences are one of the most devastating crimes a person can survive and that’s why we prioritise it. Within South Wales Police we have a team of specially trained officers who work incredibly hard to target perpetrators of rape and provide specialist support to survivors who have been affected.

“If you have been affected by sexual abuse, please report it to us. You will be treated in the strictest of confidence and we will provide you with the help and support you need. For more information on how to make a report to us, please visit our website: https://www.south-wales.police.uk/ro/report/rsa/alpha-v1/v1/rape-sexual-assault-other-sexual-offences/?rid=33028&stepId=1

“We recognise though not everyone who has experienced this type of abuse has the confidence to report it to police.

“If you have been a victim of sexual assault, help, advice, and support can be sought from specialist Sexual Assault Referral Centres (SARCs). They are located around Wales and have specially trained doctors, nurses, and support workers to care for you.”
