A new children’s playground is being created in Pontllanfraith as part of plans to develop a major new housing development in the area.

The new facility will replace the existing playground, which is located within the site of the former council offices in Pontllanfraith. The old playground needs to be removed as the site is soon to be developed into a major new housing development called Chartist Garden Village.

Work is well underway on the new play area and the council is also hoping to reuse some of the equipment from the old playground for spares and repairs at other sites across the area.

The new £100k playground is located a short distance from the existing play area and will boast safe, modern facilities for local children to enjoy.

CCBC Cabinet Member, Cllr Nigel George welcomed the start of works, “Its great to see the provision of new play facilities to benefit the local community. We are aware that some concerns have been raised about the proximity of the site to the adjacent road, but all appropriate assessments regarding the suitability of the location have been considered as part of the planning process.”

“The scheme includes fully enclosed fencing and we are also planning to develop a planting scheme alongside the site,” he added.
