Community Volunteers Wales (CVW), a volunteer-led charitable organisation based in Risca, has expanded its support for local residents through an exciting new adaptive cycling initiative, developed in partnership with Caerphilly County Borough Council.
The scheme introduces a range of fully adaptive bicycles, enabling people of all abilities to experience the many benefits of cycling in a safe, inclusive environment. The bikes are located at Waunfawr Park, which also features a welcoming coffee shop, The Hatch. The initiative helps to provide a well-rounded community space for people to meet, chat and exercise.
This project marks Phase One of a wider plan to promote adaptive cycle use across the county borough, with future expansion anticipated as community interest grows. By providing accessible outdoor recreation opportunities, the initiative aims to enhance wellbeing, encourage active lifestyles, and foster greater social inclusion.
Tara Holloway, Co-Founder of Community Volunteers Wales commented:
“Our aim has always been to remove barriers and open doors. This project does exactly that – it gives people of all ages and abilities the opportunity to enjoy cycling safely while connecting with others and the environment around them.”
Dawn Derraven, also Co-Founder of Community Volunteers Wales, added: “This initiative is about more than just cycling, it’s about connection, wellbeing, and inclusion.”
“With the fantastic support of Caerphilly County Borough Council, we’re proud to help more people experience the joy and freedom that cycling can bring.”
