A new state of art playground comes to Powys, and a chance for communities to revamp their local parks, thanks to Welsh Government funding.

Powys County Council has been awarded over £200,000 to improve playgrounds and play facilities for children.

The funding will be used to create a new playground in South Powys and support local community-led projects to improve their local play spaces.

The new playground will be located at The Promenade in Brecon and will provide a play space for children of all abilities to play together.

Cabinet Member for Future Generations, Cllr Sandra Davies said: “I am delighted to receive this funding from the Welsh Government All Wales Play Opportunities Grant.”

“This grant enables us to enhance and create high-quality play facilities in Powys, offering children and families modern, accessible play areas. These improvements will contribute to their health and wellbeing and allow them to create childhood memories with friends in their local community.”

The new playground will be accessible for families via public transport and walking distance from the town centre. The site also has plenty of parking and toilet facilities nearby.

The park will be designed in collaboration with Ysgol Penmaes and plan Inclusive Play Areas to develop a playground for all abilities to enjoy.

Community groups, town and community councils, and third sector organisations are invited to apply for the Small-to-Mid Grants Scheme to improve local play spaces and equipment.

Each organisation can apply for a maximum of £20,000 to:

    • Enhance accessibility and inclusivity of play spaces
    •  Address gaps in provision for older children and children with ALN
    •  Support community-led play initiatives
    •  Promote equitable access to high-quality play spaces
