A new route has been announced for this year’s Christmas Parade in Swansea.

Taking place on Sunday November 23 from 5pm, the parade route will begin at the Guildhall where Santa will illuminate the building with a festive red glow, followed by a fireworks display to mark the start of the parade.

The parade will then travel down St Helen’s Road, the Kingsway, College Street, Castle Street and Caer Street before finishing on Princess Way.

There will be a mix of colour, music and joy as more than 40 community groups, eye-popping floats, and beloved characters from fairytales and comic books including Cinderella and Rapunzel fill the city centre with festive cheer.

Santa and Mrs Claus will be present, waving from their magical sleigh.

Live entertainment will keep spirits high on two stages – a stage at the Guildhall and the traditional stage outside the Dragon Hotel with a new Christmas tree, where Santa will ceremoniously switch on Swansea’s Christmas lights. This will be followed by another spectacular fireworks display lighting up the night sky.

Professional entertainers, fairytale characters and superheroes will entertain children and adults.

Cllr Rob Stewart, Leader of Swansea Council, said: “The Swansea Christmas Parade is one of the city’s most cherished events – a chance for our communities to come together and celebrate the start of the festive season.

“This year’s new route brings exciting opportunities to experience the magic from fresh perspectives and it promises to be a truly unforgettable evening.

“It’s the perfect opportunity to start the Christmas celebrations, along with a visit earlier in the day to Waterfront Winterland with its ice rink and alpine bar, and the Victorian Christmas Market with plenty of artisan gifts, crafts and festive treats in the city centre.

“The parade rounds off another fantastic year of events delivered by Swansea Council, including the Wales Airshow, IRONMAN, Swansea Arts Weekend and Croeso, with each one showcasing the vibrancy and creativity of our city.”
