Caerphilly County Borough Council has shared a proposed new operating model for New Tredegar Leisure Centre, following the cabinet decision earlier this year and a detailed review of feedback from previous engagement with users, clubs and the local community.
The preferred model aims to balance community access with the financial pressures facing the service and reflects usage patterns across the year. Under the proposal, the leisure centre would open:
- Tuesdays and Thursdays from 1pm to 8pm throughout the year
- Mondays, Wednesdays and Fridays from 4pm to 8pm during the winter months when demand for club and community activity is highest
To support the next stage of engagement, the Council will host two in person drop-in sessions at New Tredegar Leisure Centre. These sessions are designed primarily for current users to view the proposal, ask questions and share any final practical feedback. Local stakeholders will also be welcome to contribute.
The following sessions will take place at New Tredegar Leisure Centre:
- Morning session: Thursday 4th December 10:30am to 1:30pm
- Afternoon session: Tuesday 9th December 5pm to 8pm
Cllr Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said:
“Thank you to everyone who shared their views during the earlier engagement. That feedback has helped shape this proposal, which aims to retain access where demand is strongest while supporting the long-term sustainability of the service. We encourage users to attend the upcoming sessions and share any further views they may have.”
After the drop-in sessions, the Council will review all feedback before confirming final operational arrangements.
