The Development Bank of Wales has welcomed the Welsh Government’s launch of Sbardun, a new programme for established Welsh businesses with strong growth potential.
Applications for Sbardun will open in late November, with delivery beginning in April 2027.
The programme will combine investment, specialist advice and peer learning, and is intended to help businesses strengthen leadership, improve productivity, increase exports and unlock future investment.
The pilot will initially support 20 established businesses. Participants will typically be Development Bank customers with turnover of £3 million or more, at least 10 employees and a credible growth opportunity.
Selected businesses will receive support from Development Bank relationship managers and growth specialists, including a tailored growth plan and access to expertise in leadership, exporting, innovation, productivity, digital transformation and strategy.
Sbardun will also connect businesses with wider Welsh Government support, including grants, skills, innovation and export opportunities. Each business will have access to an independent board advisor, alongside opportunities to learn with a peer network.
Giles Thorley, Chief Executive of the Development Bank of Wales, said: “We welcome the launch of Sbardun and its clear focus on helping established Welsh businesses unlock their next phase of growth.”
He added: “Finance is only one part of the growth journey. Sbardun will help us combine investment with targeted expertise and peer learning, working closely with customers to build the foundations for sustainable growth. Our focus now is on engaging eligible businesses ahead of applications opening in late November and delivery starting in April 2027.”
