Newport’s Festival of Comedy returns with star-studded line up

The master of the one-liner Milton Jones has been announced as the headline act for the returning Festival of Comedy, now in its third year, on Sunday 16th July at Tredegar Park.

The previous Perrier Best Newcomer winner, British Comedy Award nominee, regular contributor on Mock the Week (BBC2) and with feature appearances on Michael McIntyre’s Comedy Roadshow (BBC1), Live at the Apollo (BBC1) and Dave’s One Night Stand (DAVE) will headline Newport’s Festival of Comedy this summer! He’ll be bringing his uniquely absurd one-liners after consecutive shows across the UK which has seen him perform to over 10,000 people tour!

Joining Milton at the festival will be Tom Davis, Mark Watson, Rhys James, Ivo Graham and taking you through the festival’s activities is MC Maisie Adam! Telly regular Tom Davis is known for his regular appearances on A League of Their Own (SKY), The Last Leg (Channel 4), feature appearances on Live at the Apollo (BBC1) as well being a comedic actor and writer for his own sitcom King Gary (BBC1), The Curse (Channel 4), and the BAFTA award winning Murder in Successville (BBC3)!

Edinburgh Festival Award Winner, Time Out Critic’s Choice and author of seven novels Mark Watson is known for his recent TV appearances include QI (BBC2) Taskmaster (Dave) and Bear Grylls’ Celebrity Island (Channel 4). He has also appeared on Mock The Week (BBC 2), Celebrity Pointless (BBC 1), Have I Got News For You (BBC 1), Would I Lie To You? (BBC 1), Live At The Apollo (BBC1) and Channel 4’s Comedy Gala.

Rhys James is an accomplished comedian, writer and actor who you will have seen on ‘Roast Battle’ (Comedy Central), ‘Russell Howard’s Stand Up Central’ (Comedy Central), ‘A League of Their Own’ (Sky One) and ‘Live At The Apollo’ (BBC Two) and as a regular panellist on ‘Mock The Week’ (BBC Two). He has performed six solo shows at the Edinburgh Fringe to sell-out audiences and critical acclaim, with his 2019 show ‘Snitch’ being one of the best reviewed comedy shows at the Edinburgh Fringe. Ivo Graham has established himself as, if not the UK’s poshest, then certainly its most apologetically posh comedian. With a bumbling charm to snare audiences of all ages, he’s sold out six runs at the Edinburgh Fringe, the latest of which was nominated for the prestigious Best Show award in 2019, and has appeared on TV shows including Have I Got News for You, QI, (BBC1) The Last Leg (C4), Mock the Week (BBC1), Live at the Apollo (BBC1) and The Football’s On (BT).

MC Maisie Adam is fresh from her sold out tour ‘Buzzed’ which received rave reviews. Best Newcomer nominee, Maise has also made appearances on from Live at The Apollo (BBC1), A League of Their Own (SKY), Mock The Week (BBC2), Roast Battle (COMEDY CENTRAL) and The Last Leg (C4).

Accompanying this unmissable line-up of live comedy will be the Festival of Comedy live house band, street food, a fun fair and so much more!

Festival of Comedy Director Mark Hopkins said, “Now in its third year, The Festival of Comedy continues to grow and make audiences giddy with laughter. We’ve got a stellar line-up this year which we think is the best yet! We’ve got a variety of comedic styles to tickle all types of humour. We’re looking forward to delivering another excellent experience for Wales!”

The Festival of Comedy will take place at Tredegar Park, Newport on Sunday 16th July with Milton Jones, Tom Davis, Mark Watson, Rhys James, Ivo Graham and Maisie Adam. Tickets are available 10am Friday 7th April via thegigglinggoat.co.uk
