Arguably one of the most well-known music legends of all time, Nile Rodgers stunned fans at Cardiff Castle last night.

Bringing his guitar, Rodgers was joined on stage with disco band CHIC, who got crowds up on their feet to dance the night away in the stunning backdrop of the city’s Cardiff Castle.

The artist and producer who has celebrated decades of success has collaborated with Madonna, Daft Punk, Avicci, amongst many others. It should come as no surprise Rodgers has been inducted into the Songwriter’s Hall of Fame.

CHIC and Rodgers have a string of top 10 pop hits to their name, including Everybody Dance, Le Freak, I Want Your Love, Dance, Dance, Dance and Good Times.

Even in the summer months, the weather is never guaranteed, however, organisers could not have planned for a better evening. There is something special about attending outdoor concerts, especially when hosted in a fairly unique venue, you can’t help but feel the exclusivity and magic of the performance. You almost forget that you’re at the heart of the capital of Wales.

The event appeared to be well organised, operating a relatively smooth and efficient queuing system when entering. This was extended to the bar and toilet areas, neither of which you had to wait very long for. There was noticeably a lot of staff on-hand, should you have needed any assistance.

The one-off gig at Cardiff Castle was organised by the same team behind the DEPOT venue on Dumball’s Road. DEPOT in the Castle – Cardiff’s one day, family-friendly music festival (now in its third year) takes place on Saturday.

Though the two events will share the same venue, the Friday concert and Saturday festival were ticketed separately, with the Nile Rodgers & CHIC gig operating a strict over 14’s policy.

Speaking ahead of the event, DEPOT founder Nick Saunders said: “We’re really looking forward to bringing a massive weekend of live entertainment to the castle this summer. It’s a real honour for our independent company to be bringing the legend that is Nile Rodgers – and his band CHIC – to our city. Summer headliners don’t get much better than that!”
