No plans approved for Bedwas tip, says council

Caerphilly County Borough Council has issued a statement in response to public concern and confusion regarding the potential reclamation of Bedwas Tip, aiming to clarify the current situation.

The council emphasised that no permission has been granted for any reclamation scheme to proceed. Any such major development would require thorough scrutiny and public consultation as part of the formal planning process.

A project of this scale would also need approvals and permissions from various statutory agencies before any work could begin.

At present, no formal planning application has been submitted to the council. However, it has been confirmed that a developer has undertaken a ‘pre-application consultation’. The Local Planning Authority is not involved in this process, and until a formal application is lodged, it is not in a position to assess the specifics of any proposal.

The Leader of the Council, Cllr Sean Morgan, sought to reassure residents:

“If a formal planning application is received, then appropriate consultation will take place so that all stakeholders in the community have the opportunity to provide feedback, before the matter is determined by the Planning Committee.”

“I hope this helps clarify the current position and please be assured that any such scheme would be subject to robust scrutiny and would also require a range of conditions and control measures to minimise the impact of any planned works,” he added.
