Councillors thank residents after consultation on plans for a major new investment at Ysgol Gyfun Cwm Rhondda in Cymer.
Around 40 people attended a public drop in event at the school in January, where local residents, staff, pupils and community representatives were able to find out more about the proposals and share their views.
The council has now used that feedback to finalise its planning application, which has recently been submitted.
Residents will have another opportunity to comment as part of the statutory planning process. Full details are available via the planning portal on Rhondda Cynon Taf Council’s website. The application also includes an animated fly through video giving an early look at how the new school could appear.
The proposed investment would deliver a brand new 11 to 19 Welsh medium secondary school on the current site. Plans include a modern, fully accessible new build development, along with improved outdoor learning areas and new sports facilities that would be available for both school and community use.
Kier Construction has been appointed as the contractor for the development. The project would be delivered jointly by the council and Welsh Government through the Sustainable Communities for Learning programme.
The Cymer scheme forms part of a wider £414 million joint funding commitment covering nine major education investments in the coming years.
Two of those projects are already nearing completion, with a new Additional Learning Needs school in Clydach Vale, Ysgol Cambrian, and an ultra sustainable school in Glyncoch, Ysgol Gynradd Glyn-coch, both set to open later this year.
