Rhondda Cynon Taf County Borough Council’s Cabinet has agreed additional funding that takes investment in parks, country parks and play areas to £4m for the financial year.
A £3.3m scheme has secured a further £750,000. The council said the money will support new and upgraded play areas, rebuilt skate parks in Ystrad and Beddau, safety fencing and surfacing, better access, pathways, car parks, fencing, toilets and club houses, and sports facilities including pitches, stands and changing rooms.
Two new splash pads are set to open at Ynysangharad War Memorial Park in Pontypridd, subject to approval by the Ynysangharad War Memorial Park Sub Committee, and at Gelligaled Park in Ystrad. Plans also include enhancing a third splash pad.
Cllr Louisa Addiscott, Cabinet Member for Environment and Capital Infrastructure, said: “Today’s additional funding brings the total investment in parks, country parks and play areas to a significant £4m.”
She added: “Alongside the investment in parks, play areas and country parks is the exciting announcement of plans to open two new splash pads and enhance a third, meaning park life is set to get even more exciting for residents in the future.”
The parks plans form part of a wider £12m investment package for priority service areas in 2026/27, over and above the capital programme already being delivered. That package includes £3.5 million for highways and roads, £3 million each for the Llanharan Sustainable Transport Corridor and the Cynon Gateway North Transit Corridor, £800,000 for splash pads, £500,000 for parks and green spaces, £150,000 for country parks and £100,000 for play areas, alongside other allocations.
