Residents invited to shape future of outdoor access across Caerphilly

Residents across Caerphilly County Borough are being encouraged to have their say on the future of local outdoor access, as plans move forward to re-establish the area’s Local Access Forum.

The county borough is home to an extensive network of around 800km of public rights of way, including scenic footpaths and multi-use routes that play an important role in supporting recreation, wellbeing and everyday access to the outdoors.

The proposed Local Access Forum will bring together a wide range of voices to help guide how these routes are maintained, improved and made more accessible. It will also play a key role in shaping the Council’s Rights of Way Improvement Plan, ensuring it reflects the needs of local communities.

Caerphilly County Borough Council is particularly keen to hear from under-represented groups, including people who use mobility aids or those with experience of disability or limited mobility, to ensure outdoor access works for everyone.

The initiative aligns with the council’s wider ambitions under the Sport and Active Recreation Strategy 2019 to 2029, with a focus on making it easier for residents to enjoy the outdoors, whether through walking, cycling, running or exploring nature.

Residents, community groups and those working within the countryside sector are all being invited to share their views and help shape future access across the county borough.

Anyone interested in taking part can find out more and have their say via the Caerphilly Conversation page before Sunday 10 May.
