Rhug Estate is delighted to announce that PGI Welsh Lamb from its organic farm in north Wales is the first Welsh organic lamb to be available for customers to buy in Qatar, following Lord Newborough negotiating a trade deal which has taken two years to finalise.

Various cuts of Rhug Estate Welsh organic lamb are now available to buy from the butchers’ counter in Monoprix supermarkets in Qatar including lamb shanks, loins and legs of lamb.

Lord Newborough, owner of Rhug Estate, said, “It has taken a lot of hard work to get us to this point but we are absolutely delighted to open up this whole new market in Qatar. We are grateful to the Welsh Government and Hybu Cig Cymru for their support along the way.”

Rhug Estate is now working directly with a local distributor in Qatar – Desert Fox. Desert Fox will be responsible for promoting and distributing Rhug’s award winning Welsh lamb, and organic chicken in the near future, amongst supermarkets and growing the demand with local chefs in hotels and restaurants.

Mohamed Sahli from Desert Fox said, “At Desert Fox Trading we understand that the food and beverages industry is constantly changing. Customers are now looking at where their meat comes from, they want the story behind it and need to know about its sustainability. We are proud to now be working with Rhug Estate and are excited to show our clients the high- quality meat that is produced on the farm in north Wales as well as tell them the provenance of the meat they are about to buy and eat.”

Rhug Organic PGI Welsh Lamb is already available to buy in Dubai, Singapore, Hong Kong, the Netherlands and Macau. You can also buy it in Rhug Estate’s own Farm Shop, in Borough Market, London and online: www.rhug.co.uk
