Swansea Council has issued an update on the ongoing disruption at Cwmbwrla roundabout following recent flooding.
The route into the city centre remains closed to traffic while essential pumping equipment is in place to divert water away from a damaged culvert located near Cwmfelin Social Club. This work is also allowing for the removal and replacement of damaged pumps that were affected during the flooding.
Council officials have said that without this equipment, the risk of further flooding remains high, particularly with more heavy rainfall forecast.
Once the pumping work is completed, one lane of Carmarthen Road will be reopened to allow traffic to travel into the city centre. Heol y Gors, however, will remain fully closed to traffic until further notice.
A spokesperson for Swansea Council said:
“Our highways teams and partner agencies have been working day and night to ensure everything is back to normal as quickly as possible. We’d like to thank residents and road users for their patience while this essential work is carried out.”
Early investigations suggest that a nearby culvert was unable to cope with the sustained volume of water during the severe downpours. The council is now working with Dŵr Cymru Welsh Water to establish the exact cause of the flooding.
