Fire and Security specialists, Protectorcomms Ltd have opened a new Training and Demonstration Facility to help train and upskill engineers.

The new facility is based at its head office in Caerphilly and is used for training apprentice engineers. It will give them the practical experience of fitting and testing fire and security systems. From fire alarms and CCTV to access control, intercoms and intruder alarms.

The company recently won the Small Business of the Year award at Caerphilly Business Awards. It recruits around five new trainees a year, giving them their first job in the industry. The facility will also be used to upskill current in-house engineers who want to broaden their skillset.

Lloyd Harding, Technical Director at Protectorcomms said, “Our new training and demonstration facility has been built for purpose. We recognise the skills gap in our industry and the need for practical learning. Our engineers and trainees will undergo in depth technical training in this new high-tech facility. Our aim is to produce multi skilled engineers to be able to offer the most comprehensive services in the local area.”

Apprentices typically train for two to three years before they are NVQ Level 3 qualified. Trainees will use the new facility as supplementary training alongside studying a course at college.

Peter Broom, Training Manager at Protectorcomms said, “When I started my career as an electrical apprentice I was taught through theory. We want our staff to have those all-important practical skills. Providing hands on training means our engineers are highly skilled, confident and competent.”

Protectorcomms have ambitious plans for the new facility to also be used by end users. The company will provide demonstrations and training to its customers using the systems in the facility, to familiarise them with their capabilities.

The company, which celebrates its 18-year anniversary this year, services companies both large and small throughout Wales and the south-west. Helping them secure their property with CCTV, fire and intruder alarms, security gates and barriers and access control.
