Spring craft workshops at Nantclwyd y Dre

Nantclwyd y Dre

This April, Nantclwyd y Dre historic house and gardens in Ruthin is keeping its tradition as a home for Welsh arts and crafts alive through a series of nature-based creative workshops, just in time Easter.

Originally built as a weaver’s cottage, the traditional townhouse has continued to provide a home for creativity, arts, and crafts, most notably thanks to architect, calligrapher, painter, and wood carver Samuel Dyer Gough, who owned the home from 1934 onwards and whose craftsmanship can be found throughout the house.

Delivered by skilled local artists, a willow weaving workshop, a pop-up tulip bar, and wood carving taster sessions will be held in the townhouse’s cosy coffee corner giving attendees the opportunity to take inspiration from over 500 years of history and seasonal blooms as they get creative:

  • Thursday, 24th April – Willow Weaving with Trish Stafford. Use traditional weaving skills and sustainable materials to craft a willow obelisk, topped with a dragonfly, to offer support for climbing plants or live as a standalone feature in your garden.
  • April 24th & 25th – Wood Carving Taster Sessions with Andie Parry of Enchanted Wood Creations. Drop in and learn about the carving process from an experienced carver with the option to carve a simple flower from live wood (£5pp).

Councillor Emrys Wynne, Lead Member for Welsh Language, Culture & Heritage said:

“There are plenty of exciting activities and events that will be held at our heritage sites across the County in the next few months, and I would encourage everyone to take advantage of what’s on offer”.
