Swansea Council to expand team by recruiting 17 construction apprentices

Swansea Council is this week launching its annual apprenticeships recruitment campaign with 17 opportunities in the Building Services team available.

The council’s award winning programme is highly regarded for developing the next generation of carpenters, plumbers, electricians, plasterers and bricklayers.

Application forms have now gone live on the council’s website at  www.swansea.gov.uk/jobs with a deadline of Sunday February 26 to apply for the building services apprenticeships.

Other apprenticeships in a range of other departments are advertised on the website throughout the year.

This year the council is seeking two apprentice plumbers, three apprentice electricians, five apprentice carpenters, four apprentice plasters and three apprentice bricklayers.

Cllr Andrea Lewis, Cabinet Member for Service Transformation, said: “I’m exceptionally proud of our construction apprenticeship programme because of our reputation for first-class training and producing high-quality trade and craftspeople – both men and women.

“Hundreds of local young people have benefited since its inception and have received paid on the job training. They have gained nationally recognised qualifications that have seen them progress to fulfilling careers both within and outside the council.

“There has never been a more exciting time to join the building services team as we are committed to building 1,000 new energy efficient affordable council homes during the next 10 years while continuing to invest heavily in improvements in our existing housing stock.

“There is always a lot of interest when these posts become available and so I would  urge potential apprentices not to miss out and apply for these new roles.”
