Upcoming work as part of the former M&S site redevelopment in Pontypridd will require a temporary closure of the lane next to the site. This essential measure means the access into Ynysangharad War Memorial Park via M&S footbridge will be temporarily closed for three weeks, from April 10.

Redevelopment of the M&S/Dorothy Perkins site at Taff Street started last year, and contractor Horan Construction Ltd is on course to complete work in late spring 2026. The ‘riverside plaza’ project will create a welcoming public space with greenery, small food and drink kiosks, and open views of the River Taff.

As the M&S site works near completion, the lane adjacent to the site is needed for essential improvements, including resurfacing, which will require its closure from Friday, April 10, to Friday, May 1. The Council is giving advanced notice of this, as it will require the M&S bridge access to be brought out of use.

Please note, Ynysangharad War Memorial Park remains open for its usual seasonal hours – with three alternative accesses remaining available for visitors. These are at the main gates off Bridge Street, via Llys Cadwyn bridge near Gas Road Car Park, and via the Taff Trail link near the football pitches.

Officers will place advanced notice signs at M&S bridge to give park users and town centre visitors as much notice as possible. The Council will also work closely with organisers of any local events in the weeks ahead. The Saturday morning Parkrun and the Lido Ponty season will be unaffected. All town centre businesses will also be unaffected and will be open as usual.
