The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre proudly announces a milestone achievement as ‘Beauty and the Beast’ concludes its remarkable run, setting a new standard as our highest-selling pantomime to date. This festive production has shattered records and captured the hearts of over 27,000 attendees, including 10,500 pupils and teachers. The overwhelming response reflects the sheer magic and enchantment that audiences experienced.

Led by Newport’s cherished comic, Richard Elis, along with the stellar performances by a talented cast including, Aled Pugh, Phoebe Holmes, and Gareth Tempest, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ delighted audiences with an extraordinary display of talent. Newcomers Elian West, Londiwe Mthembu, and Hugo Joss Catton, alongside our talented ensemble and three teams of local young performers, further elevated this production, creating an unforgettable theatrical experience.

The show’s astounding success can be attributed not only to the breathtaking sets, dazzling costumes, and captivating musical numbers that resonated long after the final curtain call but also to the collective brilliance of The Riverfront’s entire team. From the dedicated cast and crew to the imaginative creatives behind the scenes, ‘Beauty and the Beast’ was a testament to their collaborative efforts, appealing to seasoned panto-goers and newcomers alike, with the Front of House team’s warm welcome and seamless service contributing significantly to the overall enchantment of this remarkable production.

Building on this triumph, The Riverfront Theatre eagerly anticipates the upcoming arrival of ‘Dick Whittington’ as next year’s enchanting pantomime adventure. This rags-to-riches tale promises uproarious gags, stunning scenery, captivating costumes, formidable villains, and ample audience participation.

Mark your calendars! ‘Dick Whittington’ will grace the stage from November 27th, 2024, until January 4th, 2025, offering a timeless family pantomime that transports attendees into a world where love conquers all, igniting the festive spirit.

‘Dick Whittington’ will present an increased number of accessible performances, affirming our commitment to inclusivity and growth. These shows will feature British Sign Language interpretation and Audio Description, ensuring accessibility for visually impaired customers and those with low vision. Additionally, relaxed showings will cater to individuals who find traditional theatre settings overwhelming, reaffirming our dedication to making theatrical wonders accessible to everyone.

“This incredible reception for ‘Beauty and the Beast’ showcases the power of theatre to unite and delight audiences of all ages. We are thrilled by the overwhelming support from our audiences and the wonderful feedback we have received about the show. We look forward to welcoming people back next year for the adventure of ‘Dick Whittington. The pantomime is a key part of our annual calendar and our continued work to provide engaging arts and cultural activities for people across Newport and beyond.” Gemma Durham, Head of Theatre, The Riverfront Theatre and Arts Centre.
