Drivers in Cardiff are being urged to shop around for fuel after global energy prices jumped amid escalating tensions in the Middle East.

Gas prices have surged while global stock markets have fallen as concerns grow over how long the conflict could last. The UK gas price hit its highest level for three years earlier this week, while Brent crude briefly rose above $85 a barrel for the first time since July 2024.

Rising wholesale energy prices can often filter through to motorists at the pump, though prices still vary significantly between petrol stations.

Analysis of Cardiff forecourt prices shows there is currently more than a 6p per litre difference between some of the cheapest and most expensive sites across the city.

The cheapest petrol in Cardiff at the moment can be found at ASDA on Ferry Road, where unleaded is priced at 130.9p per litre. BP on Nantgarw Hill follows at 131.9p, while ASDA in Leckwith is charging 132.7p.

Other competitive petrol prices include Tesco on Tyn Y Parc Road and Texaco on North Road, both listed at 132.9p per litre.

Diesel drivers will also find the cheapest fuel at ASDA on Ferry Road, currently priced at 137.9p per litre. The Texaco station on North Road is matching that price.

Tesco on Tyn Y Parc Road is the third cheapest diesel option in the city at 138.9p, while Morrisons on International Drive and Texaco on Newport Road both list diesel at 139.9p.

With global energy markets showing signs of volatility, drivers are being advised to keep an eye on local prices and plan fuel stops carefully to keep costs down.

    4 Morrisons International Drive, CF11 0JP 139.9
    5 Texaco Newport Road, CF3 5UG 139.9

Drivers are being reminded that price listings depend on updates being submitted, and some stations in Cardiff are currently shown without fuel prices on their station page.

If you are planning a longer trip, it is worth checking prices before you set off and, where possible, timing fill ups around supermarket sites which often compete aggressively on price.
