Cardiff Airport is today welcoming the first wave of thousands of French rugby fans arriving in Wales ahead of the Guinness Six Nations clash between Wales national rugby union team and France national rugby union team.
The two sides meet at the Principality Stadium on Sunday 15 February, with kick off at 3.10pm.
Over the next three days, 62 additional flights will operate in and out of the Welsh capital’s airport, carrying more than 13,900 French supporters heading to Cardiff for the match.
Airport teams are working to ensure customers have a smooth and enjoyable experience as the surge of passengers passes through the terminal.
Rugby fans travelling through the airport will also benefit from Next Generation Security technology, which allows passengers to leave liquids under 100ml in their hand luggage, along with electronic devices.
Those attending the match are being advised to arrive early and check the prohibited items list on the stadium’s official website, particularly the bag policy, before travelling.
Cardiff Airport CEO, Jon Bridge, said:
“The whole team is really looking forward to a busy weekend in the terminal and out on the airfield. Cardiff Airport hosts major events, such as the rugby airlifts, very well. A lot of planning with partners and stakeholders takes place behind the scenes in advance. It’s a great atmosphere for everyone.”
With tens of thousands expected in the city over the weekend, motorists are reminded that road closures will be in place in Cardiff city centre. Details can be found here: https://www.wales247.co.uk/six-nations-2026-road-closures-confirmed-for-cardiff-city-centre
