Checks Direct is breaking into new areas of the UK screening market in 2022 with the introduction of its new Employment Referencing and Driver and Vehicle Licensing Agency (DVLA) checking services.

As an umbrella body of the Disclosure and Barring Service (DBS), Checks Direct works with public, private and not-for-profit clients from a range of industries, who will now benefit from additional safeguarding solutions.

Employment Referencing Checks confirm an applicant’s employment history and current employment status, and employers can choose to cover a period of one year, three years, or five years.

DVLA Checks confirm a person’s driving background, including their driving licence validity and expiration date, the type(s) of vehicle they’re permitted to drive, penalty points, disqualifications and more. They help make sure a recruit meets industry-specific standards and are suitable for any organisation that hires employees and third parties to drive, have access to company vehicles, or who use their own vehicles for work-related activities.

Over a million people are employed in large goods, van, bus, taxi and many other professional driving roles within the UK.*

Samantha Marriott, Head of Checks Direct, said: “Although different in purpose, both Employment Referencing Checks and DVLA Checks will help us provide a new level of confidence to even more organisations UK-wide seeking to make informed hiring decisions with both issues in mind.

“These checks can play a vital role in reinforcing recruitment processes and enhancing safeguarding and compliance standards.”

Checks Direct provides comprehensive criminal record and other vetting checks through a bespoke online system that makes employment screening as accessible, straightforward, and as time effective as possible.

As a business, it also ensures employers meet industry legislation and the ethical obligations of stakeholders with an extensive suite of services. This includes Basic, Standard and Enhanced DBS Checks in addition to ID, Right to Work, Teacher Status and Employment Credit checks, and more.

Previously known as OnlineDBS, Checks Direct has more than 20 years’ experience in employment screening. It has a growing base of 5,000 clients and processes more than 50,000 DBS and vetting checks per year across a diverse client portfolio ranging from small businesses to multinational corporations, and spanning local, national and international organisations.

Samantha Marriott added: “It’s always been our mission to make sure that vetting checks are anything but a ‘tick box’ exercise for employers UK-wide, and our continued growth is reflective of the quality of service we have come to provide with this outlook in mind.

“The need to reduce the risk around new hires for organisations operating in all sectors has always been a priority for us, so it’s important we look to improve and expand on our services for comprehensive solutions, and our offering to clients is continuously developing with this in mind.

“We look forward to providing even more peace of mind to existing and new customers through our ever-developing suite of products, services and advanced systems.”
