Pioneering biotechnology company Genesis Biosciences is eyeing further export growth this year after strengthening its global leadership in microbial and biological innovation through a transatlantic network of R&D, fermentation, and manufacturing facilities.
Genesis Biosciences is setting new standards in sustainable biotech solutions for industries worldwide, from marine and wastewater treatment to feminine hygiene, agriculture, and fast-moving consumer goods with operations spanning the United States, United Kingdom and Europe. The company’s dedicated R&D centre in Cardiff, Wales, serves as the global engine of innovation, driving microbial strain development, product efficacy testing, and technical excellence across all regions.
Over the last three years, the business has grown by approximately 140%, with export activity being a significant contributor. Genesis is continuing to scale its export success this year, targeting a further 7% growth in export markets by working with an increasing number of international customers and expanding its UK-based sales team to provide dedicated support to key international accounts.
Strategic partnerships with Unilever and IMCD have been primary drivers for its international growth. Unilever’s Partner with Purpose programme has seen Genesis’ probiotic technology used within global cleaning products, while the company has also developed a strong partnership with IMCD, a leading speciality chemicals distributor, since appointing it as its distribution partner for sustainable microbial and biological concentrates in 2023.
The distribution partnership reinforces the company’s credibility and market reach across the EMEA region, strengthening Genesis’ sales channels across the EU and overcoming logistical challenges post-Brexit. Additionally, regional partnerships throughout the Americas and Asia-Pacific have extended Genesis’ export scope beyond Europe, reaching customers in Australia, China, India, Indonesia, Malaysia, New Zealand and South Africa.
Dr Emma Saunders, General Manager at Genesis Biosciences, said: “Our geographically diverse operations give us the agility and resilience needed to support partners in a dynamic global landscape.
“With Cardiff driving innovation and our manufacturing hubs ensuring continuity of supply, we are uniquely positioned to deliver sustainable biotech solutions at scale for both developed and emerging markets. Our facilities and strategic partnerships have created a foundation for us to build a resilient, diversified supply chain and track record of cross-border exports, enabling us to grow and deliver our solutions to customers in industrial, institutional and consumer markets in over 20 countries worldwide.
“Our international reach is built on trust. From ensuring the highest standards of product integrity and compliance at our UK and US facilities to forming and maintaining strong distributor partnerships and localised support, we are cementing our reputation as a trusted global biotechnology provider with science-led, sustainable solutions that help industries make a tangible impact across every continent.”
