Persimmon is opening the door to home ownership for more families in Newport with the launch of a new site in Llanwern.

The housebuilder was joined by representatives from St. Modwen and Pobl Group to mark the recent release of 178 new quality homes for local people at its Springfield Meadows development @ Glan Llyn.

Persimmon has partnered with Pobl at the Newport site in a move which will see the delivery of 18 new homes for the purposes of social housing.

Glan Llyn – the £1bn major regeneration project being overseen by St. Modwen – continues to transform the 600-acre former Llanwern Steelworks into a high quality residential, business and sustainable community development in South Wales.

Persimmon’s Springfield Meadows development has been designed to meet the needs of first-time buyers, families and people moving up the property ladder.

Commenting on the launch of the site, Persimmon Homes East Wales Sales Director, Victoria Williams said:

“We are very excited to launch this new development at Llanwern in Newport, working with key partners such as Newport City Council, St. Modwen and Pobl, to deliver quality new homes for local people.

“Whether you’re in search of your first home or are looking for more space for your growing family, this great location at Springfield Meadows has something to suit everyone.

“Newport was recently ranked the 3rd best place to live in the UK, and the city boasts a fantastic new shopping centre, a buzzing nightlife with a wealth of bars and restaurants, great schools and a coastal position offering scenic views, walks and outdoor activities.

“There is a wide range of support available for customers, including the Welsh Government’s recent extension of Help to Buy, Persimmon’s own Mortgage Support offer, Part Exchange and Home Change schemes.

“Our on-site Customer Hub at Llanwern is open five days week from Thursday to Monday between the hours of 11am to 6pm, and we stand ready to help you with everything you want from a new home in Newport.”

Persimmon’s new site will provide a range of quality new two, three, four and five-bedroom homes. Prices at the development start from £ 220,995 to £404,995.

There are a wide range of schemes including Help to Buy available to help customers purchase at the site, with Persimmon’s Part Exchange, Mortgage Support and Home Change schemes also applicable.

As part of the commitment to the local community, the housebuilder will built a mix of 1, 2 and 3 bed properties which will be transferred to Pobl.

Commenting, Rhys Parry, Director of Development East at Pobl Group, said:

“We’re delighted to be partnering with Persimmon on this development, which will deliver much needed housing to the local area.

“Features at Glan Llyn such as the open parkland and community facilities mean that this scheme is an excellent fit with our placemaking objectives at Pobl.

“Collaborative working is key to our ambition to deliver high quality affordable housing in places where people want to live, and it’s great to see work commencing on this site.”

Once complete, Glan Llyn will be home to around 4,000 new high-quality homes in a wildlife-rich environment with an abundance of open parkland and new lakes.

One of the biggest regeneration schemes in Wales, the award-winning site was recently recognised in the Housebuilder Awards as Best Regeneration Initiative and in the Brownfield Awards as Best Biodiversity Enhancement on a Brownfield Project.

A new primary school, sports facilities and a pub have already been delivered, with more community infrastructure set to be created over the coming years.

This will be complemented with a new business park with offices, manufacturing and warehousing, and new transport links including roads, cycle routes, footpaths and bus services.

As part of Persimmon’s on-site contribution, the development will include four play areas, open space and footpath and cycle links to other parts of the site.
