A leading Welsh medical supply company has signed an exclusive deal to become the sole provider of high-definition, low-cost single-use endoscope for the arthroscopic surgery market.

Talbot Green-based Hospital Innovations, a forerunner in the supply specialist products for use in orthopaedic, surgical and corrective procedures, has signed a deal with US-based company, Integrated Endoscopy to supply their new NUVIS (pronounced nu-vee) product.

NUVIS is a unique single use battery-operated arthroscope that is designed to provide high definition visualization via a proprietary optical design, while directly addressing key safety and sterility issues associated with traditional, reusable arthroscopes. NUVIS eliminates the need for the traditional light source and the associated heat; and can be used on existing imaging systems in the marketplace. Its brand new every time aspect gives surgeons an arthroscope that they can rely on offering HD image quality consistently.

The specific arthroscope marketplace is worth £150million and so far, Hospital Innovations has received a 100% positive reaction from surgeons.

Sarah Lister-Sims, Managing Director at Hospital Innovations, said: “This is an exciting and innovative product that will revolutionise patient care and clinical efficacy. We are pleased to be bringing this ground-breaking technology to the UK.”

Brad Sharp, CEO of Integrated Endoscopy, said: “We’re excited to be sharing our NUVIS technology with surgery thought leaders around the world. The response has been overwhelmingly enthusiastic, and it’s gratifying to be able to provide the international surgical community a technology we believe will be a superior, less expensive and safer new gold-standard in arthroscopic surgery.

“With NUVIS, we can provide surgeons with an out-of-the-box, battery-operated, single-use endoscope with high-definition image quality at a price point well below that of reusable scopes. Couple that with our patented, low temperature, embedded LED light source, and we believe we can significantly impact a global market opportunity that exceeds $4 billion.”

Integrated Endoscopy’s NUVIS arthroscope is available to various select markets around the world, with plans of full global availability by early 2020. With over 16 million arthroscopic procedures worldwide, the NUVIS single-use arthroscope represents a significant opportunity for the company while improving efficiency and safety and reducing costs in operating rooms and surgery centers worldwide.

Founded in 2008, Hospital Innovations is a Human Tissue Authority (HTA) licensed supplier of specialist products used in orthopaedic and corrective surgeries and works in partnership with five of the world’s leading tissue banks.
