A 52-year-old woman has today been jailed for the murder of her partner, Marcin Koziol.
Joanna Wronska, of Pentre Gwyn in Caia Park, killed Marcin with a single stab wound to the heart.
She claimed he had inflicted the injuries on himself in a bid to take his own life.
But a jury saw through her lies and convicted her of murder after less than 90 minutes of deliberations following a nine-day trial at Mold Crown Court last month.
She was sentenced today to life imprisonment, with a minimum term of 16 years.
Shortly before 6.15pm on 23 October 2023, police received a call from Wronska, who told officers Marcin had a knife.
Officers arrived at their home and were directed to Marcin who was lying in bed with a large stab wound to his chest. No knife was found in the room.
Paramedics were called but sadly, he could not be saved.
Wronska told officers the couple had been home alone and nothing had happened prior to the incident. She claimed when she went into the bedroom, she found him lying on the bed, covered in blood and he’d asked her to call an ambulance.
She was arrested that evening on suspicion of murder.
Following a search of the house, a clean knife, matching the measurements of the injury, was discovered in the kitchen sink.
Crime scene investigators later found traces of blood present around the sink and taps of the bathroom, where Wronska was seen to be wiping her hands on police arrival.
She maintained during the trial he had stabbed himself, but the pathologist who carried out the postmortem had concerns how a right-handed man could inflict a wound to their own chest at such an angle, and with such extreme force to fracture three ribs – completely severing one.
It is believed in a drunken temper, Wronska took the knife and stabbed her partner.
Speaking following sentencing today, Detective Chief Inspector Eleri Thomas said: “Joanna Wronska senselessly and needlessly ended Marcin Koziol’s life – her partner who she claimed she loved deeply.
“It was a cruel and violent attack on a man who had sought support from her.
“Wronska then went to great lengths to conceal her crime and deceive the police by claiming Marcin had killed himself, causing untold trauma to his family, some of whom had to endure the ordeal of giving evidence, and then forced to listen to her lies throughout the trial.
“The thorough and diligent work carried out by the investigation team helped the jury see through her lies and secure justice for Marcin’s loved ones.
“I would thank everyone who came forward to assist with the investigation, including the first responders who tried to save his life.
“We will never know what drove Wronska to end Marcin’s life, but I hope her conviction and today’s result brings some small measure of respite to his family.”
