Cabinet members at Caerphilly County Borough Council have  approved a series of investments to the tune of £1.5million to take forward key regeneration projects across the county borough.

The latest project approved by Cabinet today advances initial work to progress improvements to the strategic highway network in Caerphilly at Bedwas Bridge.  The A468/B4600 Bedwas Bridge roundabout is a key junction on the northern distributor road around Caerphilly town centre, linking Bedwas and Trethomas to the northern bypass. Congested through peak periods, enhancements will improve efficiency and reduce traffic in the town centre.  The funding will be used to progress initial feasibility work.

Coffi Vista in Caerphilly town is also set to benefit from funding for the Licence to Innovate fund to develop a new gelato counter.  There are currently no other venues in the town offering this, so as well as providing a new offer for visitors it will also help the Council generate additional income.

Building on the success of the Regeneration Project Board to date the Cabinet has agreed to allocate a further £1million to the Board’s Development Fund which will enable a range of additional potential projects  to be progressed throughout the county borough.  It is estimated that the investment made to date by the Council through the Development Fund will have the potential to leverage in the region of £98million into the county borough.

Cllr Sean Morgan, the Council’s Deputy Leader, said “The initiatives delivered through the Regeneration Project Board Development Fund strive to maximise the investment the Council is making, to deliver much wider benefits for the county borough.  The Licence to Innovate fund  also demonstrate the Council’s ethos as an organisation of operating with a commercial head and social heart; by investing in projects which offer the potential for income generation that can be reinvested into services for our residents.”
