4 Ways to Affordably Update Your Home

Upgrading your home can be expensive. If your interior or exterior appears worn or outdated, you likely dream of making big or small changes to improve its look and feel. Yet, a limited bank balance might force you to place your design dreams on the back burner.

However, you do not necessarily need to spend a substantial sum to transform your property’s appearance, comfort, and function. Here are four ways to affordably update your home.

    1. Apply for a Double Glazing Grant

Did you know you could receive thousands of pounds toward the cost of double glazing? The UK government may have scrapped its schemes, but English residents may qualify for the Energy Companies Obligation Scheme (ECOS). Also, Irish people aged 66 or older and living in a substandard property could receive funding for new windows and more via the Housing Aid for Older People Scheme. Learn more about the various double glazing grants available in the UK to see if you could save money on an installation.

    1. Lay Down an Area Rug

An area rug can transform a room in many ways. A stunning design can add colour and texture to an interior design. Also, it is a cheaper alternative to replacing worn hardwood flooring or carpet. Browse the market to find a rug design that complements your taste, interior design, budget, and, most importantly, the room’s size.

    1. Buy Second-Hand Items

Rather than spending your hard-earned income on brand-new furniture, appliances, tools, and gadgets, you could buy second items online that work just as well. Scour the likes of Facebook Marketplace, Gumtree, or eBay for used goods or secure items for free on the likes of Freecycle. Also, browse local charity shops for various items you could update with chalk paint, polish, or upholstery.

Many people are happy to sell their beds, sofas, dining room furniture, and garden tools for a low price for various reasons, such as relocating overseas, decluttering their property, or moving home quickly. If you are worried a sofa or bed might be dirty, it might be cheaper to rent an upholstery cleaner over buying new furniture.

    1. Change Your Accents

A few changes to a room’s accents could breathe life into your interior design. For example, a large indoor plant will inject colour, nature, and texture into a room while purifying the air and lifting your mood. Also, you could make low-cost changes, such as replacing a lampshade, photo frames, storage baskets, or artwork.

Some tweaks could transform every room in the home. For instance, you can freshen up your kitchen with new cabinet handles or taps, freshen up your grout in a bathroom, or add a large centrepiece to your dining room table. A few little changes will make a big difference to many rooms across the home.

Don’t allow a little thing like money to determine your house pride. Embark on the above affordable updates to transform your property without destroying your finances.
