North Wales Grade-II listed building transformed into a new wedding venue

Conwy County Council will launch the Grade-II listed Bodlondeb building for weddings on Wednesday (July 11).

Following the success of its inaugural wedding fair in May, organisers are welcoming partner organisations and the public to Conway Road from 2pm to 7pm, where they can witness firsthand the stunning ceremony room, picturesque gardens and marquee.

Delyth Jones, Conwy’s Head of Law and Governance, says they have already received bookings from couples eager to tie the knot at the popular 140-year old landmark, home to the local authority.

“Since announcing we were planning to conduct weddings at Bodlondeb the reaction has been incredibly positive,” said Delyth.

“The launch gives us an opportunity to showcase what we’ve come up with, as well as giving would-be brides and grooms the chance to take a look around and picture their wedding here.”

She added: “We have been busy finalising brochures and marketing materials and are ready to formally launch the service on July 11.

“The response we’ve had from businesses in the town has also been heartening, with hoteliers, bar and restaurant owners and independent producers and retailers keen to collaborate.

“We want this to benefit the whole area so it’s important we do work in partnership, so there is a knock-on effect for the local economy and we can tailor ceremonies to include their services.”

Bodlondeb was was built in 1877 for Albert Wood, a member of the famous manufacturing family producing anchors and cables for Royal Navy ships and other vessels, notably Brunel’s Great Eastern.

Visitors included the composer Sir Edward Elgar and Prime Minister David Lloyd George, though the owner was forced to turn away Queen Victoria as the house was too small to accommodate her entourage.

Superintendent Registrar Suzanne Fisher said the venue is perfect for weddings, civil and naming ceremonies, and private events.

“It’s a stunning building in one of the most beautiful parts of the country so I’m sure many couples will choose to get married here,” she said.

“We look forward to the launch and sharing in many happy occasions here in the years to come.”

The event is open to all and runs from 2pm-7pm on Wednesday July 11 at Bodlondeb civic offices on Conway Road, Conwy.
