Caerphilly Council unveils plans to reopen buildings

Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Cabinet has today (1st September) unveiled plans to begin reopening its buildings.

Its Penallta House headquarters is likely to be the first to open its doors to members of the public in September, whilst assessments are carried out in remaining buildings and a further report considered by Cabinet on 29th September.

The plans are being undertaken in line with the move to Alert Level Zero in Wales and associated guidance from Welsh Government.

Since the onset of the pandemic the Council has continued delivering critical services from locations such as residential homes. All libraries in the county borough also recently reopened offering a range of new services, including click and collect and appointment systems.

Other services have continued to be delivered to residents remotely.  Work is currently ongoing by the Council to develop systems of agile working that meet the needs of both staff and residents, whilst remaining in line with guidance from Welsh Government.

Cllr Colin Gordon, the Council’s Cabinet Member for Corporate Services, said “The Council has used new and innovative ways throughout the pandemic to ensure services have continued to be delivered to our residents, such as our award winning free school meals initiative.

We understand, however, that having physical access to our buildings is important to many.  The plans and processes approved today will now enable us to carry out rigorous assessments and put the right measures in place to ensure our buildings can be reopened whilst ensuring the safety of staff and visitors.”
