A new development that will turn a former brownfield site in Llantwit Fardre, near Pontypridd, into a neighbourhood of 95 homes has opened to the public.

The development, called Coed Derw, is a project by homebuilder Bellway and will include 87 two, three and four-bedroom houses for private sale and eight affordable homes for rent or shared ownership.

The first homes were released for sale at the start of October, when a sales office was opened on site.

The land, off Llantrisant Road, was once home to the chemical and care product manufacturer Clariant, but it was left vacant after the plant closed in 2012. The buildings were demolished and last year the plot was purchased by Bellway.

Construction work is now well under way on the 7.5-acre site, and the showhome for the development – a four-bedroom Bowyer design – is due to open in November.

Dan Shone, Sales Manager for Bellway Wales, said: “We are expecting Coed Derw to be very popular as we will be offering a variety of house styles to appeal to people at different stages in life and requiring different features in their homes.

“This area needs homes, and we are looking forward to delivering our high-quality properties and welcoming in new residents here.

“Regenerating a location that has remained unused for so long is also a positive transformation for the local community.”

Coed Derw is a few miles from Pontypridd and just 11 miles from Cardiff city centre. Trefforest Estate train station is less than three miles away.

The development will also include open space to the south east of the site, next to neighbouring woodland.

Buyers at Coed Derw will have the chance to purchase a home from Bellway’s Artisan Collection, a range of designs that combine modern construction methods with traditional craftsmanship. The house styles are all named after traditional crafts and trades.
