Despite the adverse weather conditions in Cardiff over the weekend, partygoers came to Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend to celebrate diversity and equality and round off an amazing weekend.

World famous drag queen, Courtney Act, closed the show in incredible style at Pride Cymru’s Big Weekend’s finale last night (Sunday 26 August). Attendees also saw performances from an array of international and local acts, Glee Club comedy and cabaret entertainment.

The Big Weekend is a celebration of inclusivity and diversity, held annually by Pride Cymru. 50,000 people are estimated to have attended the event on Cardiff City Lawns over the whole weekend, making it the biggest in the charity’s history.

Across the weekend, Saara Aalto, Derrick Barry, Katherine Ellis, Flip & Fill, Mutya and tributes to Amy Winehouse, Lady Gaga and Cher also performed.

On Saturday (25 August) saw over 15,000 people take part in the biggest Pride parade yet.

The theme for this year’s Big Weekend is #ProudToBeMe. The campaign aims to encourage members of the LGBT+ community and beyond to use their voice and be proud of their identity.

    Sunday 26th August

Lu Thomas, Pride Cymru’s Chair, said:

“This year’s event has been bigger and better than ever before! We’re so proud of everyone who has come to celebrate with us and make our Big Weekend such a massive success.

It’s been overwhelming to see the whole community and the whole of Wales come together to celebrate and support us, and stand shoulder to shoulder with our trans community, in solidarity when it matters most.“
