A Llanelli-based football club have secured a £6,000 grant from a local developer.

Persimmon Homes West Wales donated the funds to Calsonic Kansei Swiss Valley AFC as part of their Community Champions scheme.

The amateur football club’s first team play in the West Wales Premier League and have boys and girls teams of various ages.

Persimmon is currently building at its Awel y Mynydd and Parc Cerrig sites, less than a dozen miles away in Burry Port and Cross Hands, respectively. Three and four-bed homes are still available at both sites from £239,995 at Awel y Mynydd and £249,995 at Parc Cerrig.

The five-star developers currently have an ongoing planning application at Dafen for 145 new homes to meet housing need in the area, 29 of which will be allocated as affordable for local people, alongside active travel improvements, new play facilities, open space, and a £171,000 contribution towards education.

The housebuilders donate £48,000 to good causes across Wales every year as part of its Community Champions scheme, with Wales Air Ambulance and Carmarthen Family Centres included amongst recent local recipients.

Commenting, Persimmon’s Sales Director for West Wales, Sharon Bouhali, said:

“We’re delighted to have been able to help out Calsonic AFC in the latest tranche of our Community Champions donations.

“The club provides great opportunities to young people in the area and a focal point for families in the community, and this will, hopefully, also be true for the generations that will come to live at our nearby Awel y Mynydd and Parc Cerrig developments.

“We hope to see their teams go from strength to strength and wish them the best of luck for the future.”

Dean Williams of Calsonic AFC added:

“We’re grateful to Persimmon for their support as this donation will go a long way for the club.

“This will help the club with funding kits, training equipment, and expenses such as pitch rental, which allows us to maintain and expand our offering to young people across the town.”
