A POPULAR childcare expo looks set to get bigger every year after taking its first steps.

The inaugural Childcare Show was held at Coleg Cambria’s £14m Nant building at Yale in Wrexham and welcomed guests from across the sector, and region.

Organised by Childcare Assessor Lauren Lawrence, a former nursery manager with more than 10 years’ experience, the event was a first for the college and brought together some of the industry’s top names.

It also acted as a showcase for the college’s facilities and coursers, with more than 30 organisations and businesses – as well as up to 100 students and their families, charities and relevant stakeholders – joining Lauren and the team.

She said: “The event was filled with an incredible atmosphere that truly inspired our students. We took great joy in celebrating their achievements together.

“This experience has instilled in us a genuine optimism for future Childcare Shows, and we look forward to deepening the partnerships we’ve established.

“We’ve had lots of positive feedback from those who came along and would like to thank them for being a part of it.”

Among those in attendance were cohorts from Levels 2 and 3 of the Children’s Care, Play and Learning qualification.

Organisations including the NHS, Forest School, Wrexham Family Information Service, quality assessors and private nurseries had also signed up.

Lauren says by working together they can make childcare a more attractive proposition for young people in the future.

“There are so many options out there, but traditionally this hasn’t been seen as a viable long-term career, a perception we want to change” she added.

“We are already being asked to make this an annual celebration and after the success of our first event we definitely plan to do so.”
