The Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach has undergone a major facility improvement, with works to renew and improve the 3G rugby pitch now complete. The previous surface had reached the end of its lifespan, and the new pitch delivers a higher quality playing experience for both community sport and elite performance.

This investment forms part of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Sport and Active Recreation Strategy, which focuses on providing facilities that are aspirational, accessible, inclusive and built to a high standard. The renewed pitch enhances the overall quality of the site and strengthens its position as a Level 3 strategic facility for club and community use.

Chris Morgan, Cabinet Member for Leisure, said:

“We are committed to investing in the future of sport and physical activity in Caerphilly County Borough. The improved pitch at the Centre for Sporting Excellence ensures we continue to provide the best possible environment for local clubs, schools and professional teams to thrive. It shows how serious we are about delivering high quality, sustainable facilities across the county borough.”

The facility continues to welcome a wide range of users including local sports clubs, school teams and college learners. Coleg y Cymoedd students regularly use the facility as part of their sporting and educational development, and Dragons RFC have renewed their long-term commitment to the site as their primary training base.
