The Centre for Sporting Excellence in Ystrad Mynach has undergone a major facility improvement, with works to renew and improve the 3G rugby pitch now complete. The previous surface had reached the end of its lifespan, and the new pitch delivers a higher quality playing experience for both community sport and elite performance.
This investment forms part of Caerphilly County Borough Council’s Sport and Active Recreation Strategy, which focuses on providing facilities that are aspirational, accessible, inclusive and built to a high standard. The renewed pitch enhances the overall quality of the site and strengthens its position as a Level 3 strategic facility for club and community use.

The facility continues to welcome a wide range of users including local sports clubs, school teams and college learners. Coleg y Cymoedd students regularly use the facility as part of their sporting and educational development, and Dragons RFC have renewed their long-term commitment to the site as their primary training base.
